In partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Tonga Women in ICT has been actively engaged in advancing women’s empowerment through technology. In March and April, 2024, Tonga Women in ICT conducted a series of trainings for 322 participants in Entrepreneurship, Digital Literacy Skills and Building a Small Database in Tonga.
Throughout this period, our efforts have centred on a diverse array of activities and trainings aimed at fostering digital literacy and gender equality in the ICT sector. These initiatives encompassed a range of programs, including basic digital training for young people, as well as various other workshops, seminars, school visits, community talks and awareness, and hands-on sessions. Tonga Women in ICT (TWICT) successfully conducted a series of 12 hands-on training, 2 community awarenesses, 2 schools talks and outreaches, and workshops aimed at empowering participants with valuable digital skills.
Our comprehensive approach has equipped women with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s digital world, while also extending our outreach to schools, particularly Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. By engaging students and providing valuable insights into ICT careers, we’ve sparked interest and encouraged greater female participation in the field. These collective endeavours have not only empowered women but have also cultivated a more inclusive and vibrant tech community in Tonga.
