As part of ongoing efforts to promote flexible and self-directed learning, the Commonwealth of Learning recently conducted a series of sensitisation workshops and institutional visits in the Solomon Islands. These activities aimed to introduce the Pacific TVET Online Toolkit—an initiative made possible through funding from New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). Educators, administrators, and stakeholders at Tuvaruhu TVET, the Distance & Flexible Learning Centre at Solomon Islands National University, and Tekelea Training Centre were involved in institutional visits.
“This Toolkit equips trainers to build their capabilities at their own pace, on their own terms,” said Mr Robert Okinda, COL’s Adviser: Skills. “We’re not just sharing a tool—we’re sparking a mindset shift for lifelong learning.”
The visit reinforced COL’s commitment to supporting Pacific education systems, and participants warmly welcomed using resources on the Toolkit to enhance their professional skills.
