Engagement with Stakeholders in Tuvalu for TVET Online Toolkit Awareness

In April 2025, the Commonwealth of Learning led a series of sensitisation workshops in Tuvalu, introducing the Pacific TVET Online Toolkit to key TVET institutions and education stakeholders. This initiative is supported by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) to strengthen lifelong learning across the Pacific.

The sensitisation sessions were conducted at the Tuvalu Maritime Training Institute, the Tuvalu Atoll Science & Technology Training Institute, and the Fetuvalu Secondary School. One standout moment was at Fetuvalu Secondary School, where the sensitisation coincided with the commissioning of new classrooms officiated by the Governor-General of Tuvalu. Present at the event were the Minister for Education, Minister of Labour, senior government officials, and the leadership of the Ekalesia Kelisiano Tuvalu church, alongside COL’s Adviser: Skills, Mr Robert Okinda.

“Seeing this level of engagement—from government leaders to grassroots educators—shows how ready Tuvalu is to embrace flexible, digital learning for workforce development,” said Mr. Okinda.

Teachers and trainers welcomed the opportunity to explore the Toolkit’s micro-learning modules, reflecting a growing demand for self-paced, on-the-job professional development.
