Micro-Greens Training Builds Skills and Confidence in Fiji

More than 100 young women from Ba, Lautoka and Nadi took part in a three-day Micro-Greens Training delivered by Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises & Development (FRIEND Fiji) across June and July 2025. Participants learned how to grow nutritious micro-greens indoors using low-cost materials such as trays and paper cups.

The sessions combined hands-on planting with practical problem solving on seed viability, growth challenges, harvesting and storage. Many participants returned with healthy sprouting trays, demonstrating strong engagement and readiness to continue growing micro-greens at home.

This initiative supports sustainable food practices, empowering young women and mothers with a simple, nutritious way to improve household food security, while also opening opportunities for small-scale income generation.

This training is supported by the Commonwealth of Learning, made possible through funding from New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
